Katherine & Mike's Seaport Farmers Market Wedding in Downtown Halifax
Happy February friends!
It's been a minute since I've written a blog post (OK let's be real, more like a year, lol!) but it's only because we've been so busy over here!! 2018 really was an amazing year filled with sweet couples and beautiful weddings.
I'm super excited to share my first event of 2018 with you - Katherine & Mike's spring Seaport Market wedding, along with the process behind turning a market into a wedding reception!
There's something about a spring wedding that makes my heart skip a beat. The warming weather, fresh blooms at the Public Gardens, and peonies!!! (need I say more!?). This wedding had it all.
When we started working with Katherine, she knew right away that the Seaport Market is where her and Mike would say "I do". The Seaport Market is a pretty special venue to work at. How unique is it to host your guests in the same place that is home to Halifax's famous bustling farmer's market?
For Katherine & Mike's wedding, our team rolled in just as the market vendors were pushing their booths aside and packing up remnants of the day.
Katherine & Mike opted to host their ceremony on the roof of the market, overlooking the Halifax Harbour - such a stunning backdrop!
At 3:00pm, while Katherine & Mike were off at their first look, we were up on the roof with MacFarlands Events and The Fine Tuners - getting the chairs in place and the music sound checked for the ceremony.
Once the market vendors cleared out, we were given the green light to setup the Galley & Centre Court - where Katherine & Mike's cocktail hour, dinner & dance reception would happen.
It's amazing to see it all come together, but at this venue there is always lots happening at the same time! At 4:30pm, we had the bride walking down the aisle, Certainly Cinnamon & The Clever Barkeep prepping for cocktail hour, and the decor setup of the cocktail hour & dinner spaces. Thankfully we had an amazing team of vendors and everyone had all hands on deck!
The ceremony was a quick half hour, followed by a receiving line as guests made their way to cocktails. Katherine & Mike opted for an earlier ceremony time and did all their photos beforehand, so they had a longer cocktail party to spend as much time with their guests as possible.
Meanwhile downstairs, the EP team, along with MacFarlands Events, Twig & Twine Floristry, Certainly Cinnamon, The Clever Barkeep & True North DJs were transforming the Centre Court into a pretty spring-themed reception.
Katherine's vision for the reception was light & fresh, with lots of white, beige, blush and wood accents. The colour pallete softened the space and made it feel like we were bringing the outside in! Candace Berry Photography captured the details perfectly.
At 7:00pm, our setup crew went home for the evening and we invited guests into the reception space to celebrate the newlyweds.
While the guests danced the night away, we began to do our light teardown, with MacFarlands Events joining us at 11:45pm to begin stacking chairs. When the last song was over and the lights came on, we hustled to get everything out of the market by 1:00am.
Seaport Market weddings are logistically challenging and a busy day for all, but the bride & groom's reaction to the space transformation is definitely worth it.
